Something is happening in the world of foundations and NGOs who are dedicated to overcoming poverty. From the various Managers of Social Responsibility and many companies look favorably upon mere philanthropy actions of giving money to these agencies. The sense of the Social Responsibility corrode from the moment we do not assume a full challenge of the company, but as a marketing strategy and, in some cases, clean image.
These NGOs, with emaciated coffers, willing open their doors to these funds without asking where they come from or why. Simply decide that their mission is so important that they are willing to reach a goal through any means. Years in Chile solidarity seems sold. From a telethon that accepts money from companies such as Leader, known for its poor labor practices, even as America Solidarity Foundation (for whom I have the utmost respect) that have recently agreed to be sponsored by Barrick controversy.
Someone might say that the system is well and that overcoming poverty is clearly more important than protecting a glacier in the desert. But clearly this is the mentality that Social Responsibility approach aims to break. Not to sound alarmist, But in a world where the fuel becomes a scarce commodity, where food prices are rising steadily and where global warming is no longer a little paranoia, it seems unreasonable to think about sustainable development as a second order issue.
